PiratesWe had some excitement on New Year's Day.  My daughter had to have her appendix out.  I spend two nights at the hospital with her and tonight we're both glad we'll be sleeping in our own beds.
One of the traditions we have for Christmas besides making a gingerbread house, going to Church, and signing carols is to make cookies.  We sometimes get a little silly when we make cookies.  For some reason, my son Nathan decided to make a pirate cookie.  I think he's a pretty good cookie artist!  I thought his wooden leg was very clever.  We must like pirate cookiepirates around my house because I've written a couple of pirate books, Pirates Don't Wear Pink Sunglasses and Pirates Do Ride Scooters.  Nidhi, the idea for Pirates Do Ride Scooters actually came from my own scooter.  Riya, the longest it ever took me to write a book was eight years for Cherokee Sister!  ttyl, Debbie

Snow Monsters      Happy New Year!!  Can you believe it's 2011?  I think the first day of a new year is very exciting because there's no telling what will happen in the days that are ahead.  What wonderful things are in store for us?  I wish only fabulous things for you!  Today I will contemplate several new year's resolutions-things that I plan to do differently in 2011.  Will you make a resolution?  I will write mine down and truly try to make them things I can achieve.
Nikol, I'm not sure what you mean.  John, the newest Bailey School adventures have been the Bailey School Kids Junior Chapter books, like Snow Monsters Do Drink Hot Chocolate.  They have the Bailey School kids in second grade.  Marcia and I Zombies Don't Play Soccerhave had a lot of fun writing them.  Sophia, I like your zombie idea.  I definitely think zombies are fun to write about.  In fact, I just finished a zombie story that I hope will get published.  Another zombie story that I had great fun writing was Zombies Don't Play Soccer.  My kids gave me the idea because they have played a lot of soccer.
It is supposed to be fairly warm today so I plan to take my doggies for a walk.  They have been turning into zombies because they haven't gone outside much.  Have a great day (and year!), Debbie

houseEvery year my children and I decorate a gingerbread house.  We got a little crazy with this years.  We had to use lollipops to prop it up so it wouldn't cave in and then my youngest son got a little wild putting tiny smiley faces all over with icing.  It is very unique!  Hope your Christmas is full of happy times with your family.  Merry Christmas!  Debbie

Mrs. Jeepers in Outer SpaceSiena, so glad you got your books.  Hope you'll enjoy reading them over your Winter Break.  Unka, did you know you have the same name as a TV show personality?  Kyle, I'm happy you like my books.  You can write to me in care of Scholastic 557 Broadway NY, NY 10012.  Did you know that occasionally the Bailey School Kids do go out of Bailey City?  Sometimes they go to Sheldon City and sometimes very far away in the Super Specials.  In Mrs. Jeepers Batty Vacation, they go to Romania.  In Mrs. Jeepers in Outer Space, they go to Space Camp in Alabama.  Have a great holiday, Debbie
