What would these guys be like in high school?      Bryson, thanks for your great idea.  It would be so much fun to write about the Bailey School Kids in High School.  I wonder if my editor will like the idea?
Guess what?  I volunteer at two places close to where I live.  One is called the Moland House.  Here's  a picture of me at a reenactment of when George Washington stayed there.  His Moland House Reenactmenteleven thousand troops camped nearby.  A reenactment is just an acting out of what life was like back in that time (1777).  My daughter and I wore long dresses that I made that were like what they wore back then.  Man, was I glad to chance into shorts afterwards!  I do find history very interesting.
Check out this cool opportunity to be a reporter for Scholastic (only if you are age 10-14).  Good luck!  ttyl, Debbie

Kilmer's Pet Monster     Have you ever watched a movie that was a bit scary?  Sometimes they never show the creepy monster or the bad guy-they just play scary music or have weird sounds.  That's sort of what we did in Kilmer's Pet Monster, Alex.  We never told exactly what kind of monster Bruno was and never let Jane, Ben, and Annie see him to make it more scary.  Did it work?
Sarina, since you like ponies I wonder if you'd like Unicorns Don't Give Sleigh Rides?  I wanted to write Unicorns Don't Give Sleigh Ridesabout a magical horse, so I chose a unicorn.  I do have some fantasy books, they are the Keyholder series.  I hope you'll like them too.
Ayann, I'm glad you are enjoying Witches Don't Do BackFlips.  The idea came from ny niece Amanda.  She used to be a cheerleader for the University of Louisville.  Now she works for a company that puts on cheerleading events.  Witches Don't Do BackflipsUnfortunately, I never learned how to do a backflip!
This school year I decided that since I pretty much check my letters every morning, I'd go ahead and post immediately.  Why wait?  So I'll no longer post weekly, but nearly every day.  Have a great school year, Debbie

Back to School!  How can this be?  Did summer go by too quickly for you?  It certainly did for me.  Now it's time to get school supplies, clothes, and shoes.  I can remember when I was a kid I was so embarrassed because I had to go with my Mrs. Jeepers' Creepy Christmasmom and brothers while my mom bought them new underwear!  How humiliating.  Of course, I bet they hated it just as much as I did when they had to come with me to the girl's undie department!
Samut, thanks for your lovely letter.  Mrs. Jeepers Creepy Christmas gave away a secret about what was in the box in Mrs. Jeepers basement.  Taft, I'm glad you liked Dracula Doesn't Dracula Doesn't Rock and RollRock and Roll.  It was probably the 'funnest'  Bailey School Kids book to write-we were rocking and rolling when we wrote it!  The thing about writing more Bailey School Kids books is a lesson in economics.  If people will buy them, Scholastic will want to publish them.  Do you think kids would buy more Bailey School Kids books?
A big hello to Michael.  Pam, I'll be happy to send along an autograph.  Hope you guys have a great school year.  ttyl, Debbie

The Bride of Frankenstein Doesn't Bake Cookies     Hey Martin, I'm so glad you like The Bride of Frankenstein Doesn't Bake Cookies.  Just thinking about that book makes me hungry!  I have never been to South America, so I would totally love to visit your school.  Please ask your teacher or librarian to email me to see if we can work it out!
I just got back from a beach vacation with my family to Virginia Beach, Virginia.  We stayed in an area called Sandbridge.  It was very relaxing and we ended up having beautiful weather (and a wee bit of sunburn).  view from our windowI think if you live near the ocean, you are very lucky indeed! Enjoy the rest of your summer, Debbie

Hi Haley, I'm so glad you like the Bailey School Kids books The Side of Magicand the Keyholders.  I have written 147 stories that I've sold to be made into books.  It's been a lot of fun.  I truly do love making up new worlds, like in the Keyholders.  Today, I'm working on being in the world of a twelve-year-old boy who uses the computer in his underwear!  ttyl, Debbie
