Dragons Don't Throw Snowballs     How would you like to get snowed in overnight at your school?  It really happened at a school I visited.  That idea helped shape the book Dragons Don't Throw Snowballs.   Speaking of snow-on Friday I went night skiing.  I'd never been before.  It was so cool to see the sun go down and the moon shine on the white slopes.  It was kind of magical.
Hi Alex.  No, Bruno is not real.  I do love dogs (I haveSwamp Monster in Third Grade three), so Marcia and I made him up from all the dogs we know (and have known) and love.
Samantha and Ashlyn, I'm so glad you love my books.  Do you have a favorite? Makayla, I have been writing for about 21 years and I still love it.  The last chapter I wrote had me Swamp Monsters Don't Chase Wild Turkeysback in fifth grade, getting into trouble.  (Unfortunately that happened way too much!)  The idea for the Swamp Monster in Third Grade series actually came from a Bailey School Kids book called Swamp Monsters Don't Chase Wild Turkeys.  I had fun writing about a swamp monster and wanted to write more!  g2g, Debbie

I hope no one's been sick at your house with the flu.  That's what hit my house like a The Abominable Snowman Doesn't Roast Marshmallowsten-ton sledge hammer.  My youngest son got it (even after having two flu shots), but thankfully he's well now.
Lauren, good luck with your writing.  Why don't you send me your first line?  Did you know that first lines are very important?  Sometimes Snow Monster Mysterythat's all an editor will look at to see if they like the story or not.  Emma, I worked on a new story this morning (a skateboarding story).  Kenna, I do have some snowmen books.  Emily, I'm glad you like The Abominable Snowmen Don't Roast Marshmallows .  You guys might like  Snow Monster Mystery too.  Emmy, I'm so glad you love my books.  Danielle, it's so great to hear from a nice person such as yourself and the Martians Don't Take Temperatures others I've answered today.   I hope you enjoy Martians Don't Take Temperatures.  I have a book report page that might be helpful to you.  Caroline, I love your idea!
Fabian, I'm so glad you like the Swamp Monster in Third Grade series.  I have suggested a fifth book to my editor so I'll keep my fingers crossed that I get to write Swamp Monster in Third Gradeanother one.  I live in Pennsylvania now.
Alex, I think Bruno is a mammal and definitely a mixed-breed.  Bruno is real for Kilmer.  I imagined Bruno as big, dark with large fang-like teeth and huge eyes.
Jocelyn, I look forward to meeting you.
Riley and Madalyn, I'm so glad you like my books.       g2g, Debbie

Brrrr! It's freezing here in PA. I'd love to visit Vampires Don't Wear Polka Dotssomeplace warm about now.  Destiny and Tatianna, I'm so glad you love my books.  (I know Eddie is a bit wild.)  It's fun thinking of the titles (the first one came from when Liza said, "Mrs. Jeepers can't be a vampire.  Vampires don't wear polka dots.")  Olivia, I don't have facebook because most of my fans are under age 14, the age you are supposed to be to have Facebook.  I do have Twitter, Jacketflap, and Booktour.com -the links are on my teacher's page.  Is there an age limit on Twitter?  I'm not sure.
The Worst Name in Third Grade     Sabrina, The Worst Name in Third Grade is about a girl who has a name that she hates, but everything else is pretty good.  She has a great teacher, great dog and friend, even if Mikey Parsons does like to tease her about her name.  One day everything changes:  she's mad at her friend and her teacher is moving-even her dog gets sick!  How will she ever solve all her problems?  I Giants Don't Go Snowboardingguess if you have the name Bridgett Butt you can do just about anything!  Sabrina F., you can write me at Kid's Talk and I'll answer you here.
I'm still a bit sore from going skiing at Camelback.  My kids all snowboarded, so you can see where I got the idea for Giants Don't Go Snowboarding.    Zach, I happen to love cheddar cheese.  Nicholas, click here and you can see where the artist got his idea for Mrs. Jeepers.  Victoria, I write every day and love it, so new books are coming!  Trinity, I answered a lot of letters the other day.  I hope yours was one of them.  ttyl (and stay warm and well-I think I may have caught the flu!), Debbie

HAPPY 2010!!  Check out the Books Alive interview of me.  I did it in Maryland not too long ago.  Kaitlyn and Latley, I don't need your email.  I'll answer your questions here.  Alex, I think Pricilla Pocus used magic to get the Kilmer's Pet Monsteranimals to listen to her in Kilmer's Pet Monster, don't you?  My dogs are so sweet and I guess I've trained them fairly well.  Most of the time they listen to me just because they love me and because I give them treats!
Rishona, I'm so glad you love the Keyholder series.  Marcia and I are excited about hopefully writing two Inside the Magicmore books in the series.  Did you know about #3 and #4?  The cover of #3 (Inside the Magic) is my favorite.  Do you have a favorite?   Larun, I'm delighted you love my books.  I hope you all have a great new year!  ttyl, Debbie

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  Can you believe it's almost 2010?  I hope Angels Don't Know Karatethis year brings you much happiness and lots of fun surprises.  Hi to JessicaCarina, I've written stories with Nathan and Becky, but not with Alex (yet).  Becky and I hope to get our story published (I think it rocks).
Shannon, I get ideas from lots of places, even the newspaper.  My children have given me lots of ideas.  For instance, right now I'm working on a skateboarding story since my youngest son is into skateboarding.  I wrote Angels Don't Know Karate because my two sons took karate lessons (I did too for Elves Don't Wear Hard Hatsa while).  Marcia and I got the idea for Elves Don't Wear Hard Hats from a school near us where the parents and community got together to build a playground that the kids got to design. Alexis, I do like writing chapter books-they're fun.  (I'm working on a skateboarding book.)  Two new authors-good luck with your writing.  I get character's names mostly from the phone book.  Amarie,  congrats on  meeting your reading goal.  That's awesome.  I hope you'll like Whistler's Hollow.  Harshini and Harika, my newest books are #3 and #4 of The Keyholder series, Inside the Magic and The Wrong Side of MagicHarshini, please tell your little sister I said hello.
Bryleigh, the Bailey School Kids Junior books are Eddie, Melody, Howie, and Liza when they were in second grade.  Swamp Monster in Third GradeThere are more pictures and the words are a bit easier to read.  One of my favorite is Reindeer Do Wear Striped Underwear.  The Swamp Monster in Third Grade is a series of four books.  In the first one a boy swamp monster goes to school and spends the night in a human house.  He can't sleep until he pours water on the Snow Monster Mysterypillow!  Wait until you find out what changes him into a human-you'll never want to eat them again!  Alex, Hilda is a bit magical in Snow Monster Mystery don't you think? (I did have fun for Christmas, did you?)
Brianna, unless someone asks me not to display a post, they are shown unless it's inappropriate.  They can be traced or blocked if necessary.   Hope all is well, Debbie
