I'm writing on Wednesday instead of Monday for a sad reason.  My mother-in-law Ruth Dadey died and her funeral was Monday.  She was a really nice lady with a fun streak in her.  She will be missed.  She always made Christmas special for her family.
Allie, I'm glad you liked Santa Claus Doesn't Mop Santa Claus Doesn't Mop FloorsFloors because it's one of my favorites too.  Kara, I'm glad you liked Leprechauns Don't Play Basketball.  If it wasn't for that book, I never would have learned how to spell leprechauns.  Did you know I'm from Kentucky and in Kentucky it's the law you have to like basketball?
David, you are observant.  The one thing you missed was that Eddie and Melody went in and left through the basement door.  The ghostly lady opened the front door in Vampires Don't Wear Polka Dots.  Kyle, there are over 70 Bailey School Kids books.  Courtney, I'm glad you liked one of my Ghostville Elementary books.  Did you know it's a whole series?  I hope you'll check out more of them.
Alfred, my real name is Debra Dadey.  I was born a long long time ago.  I have had lots of most important moments, like getting married and having my children and being baptised.  I have a wonderful family with a great husband and three awesome children, who always do want their mother says.  Ha!
Savannah, I have many favorite books.  One is The Worst Name in Third Grade.  To be a writer, all you have to do is write.  I think the more you write, the better you become. Reading lots of books is helpful too.  I hope you'll check out my writer's page.  It have some ideas that your writer's group might like to use.
Jenna, the idea for the first Bailey School Kids book came from a really bad day.  The kids in the books are not real, but like some real kids I have known.  My mother even said I was a little bit like Eddie!  Take care, Debbie

Hello on this lovely Monday morning.  I just worked Bridgett Button a reworked outline for book 4 of the new Keyholders series.  This is the fourth revsion of just the outline!  I think we've got it right this time though.  I woke up the other night with an idea for another book I want to write about Bridgett Butt, so I'm going to work on that outline next.  (Bridgett's first book was The Worst Name in Third Grade.)
Hi Lyndsey, how fun that you wrote your own BSK.  I like the fairy idea.  If you'd like me to read it, you can send it to me at Scholastic 557 Broadway New York, NY 10012.  Hayley and Kelly, I wish that I could afford to send everyone free copies of my books, but since that isn't possible please ask your librarian to buy the books for your library or maybe since the holidays are coming up-you might ask for them as presents.  My kids always get at least one good book from me for Christmas.  Zane, I'm glad you liked Werewolves Don't Run For President.  I must like Werewolves Don't Hula Dancewerewolves alot-I've written several books about them, including Wolfmen Don't Hula Dance!
Destiny, my third grade teacher definitely thought I talked too much.  I got in trouble for talking way too much then.  I do know one thing I like better than talking and that is writing, so I'd better get busy.  ttyl, Debbie

Are you ready for Halloween?  We've already eaten one bag of Hallween candy, so I had to go buy more this morning.  Of course, I also had to buy a Philly's shirt because I live near Philadelphia and I have to cheer for the Phillies to win the World Series tonight!
Hi Andy, I get ideas from everywhere-even the newspaper.  Of course, my kids inspire me too.  My daughter and I just recently wrote a story together in fact.  We're hoping it will get published.  I'm glad you liked Werewolves Don't Go To Summer Camp.  I hope you'll check out Werewolves Don't Run for President.Werewolves Don't Run for President
Breia, I'm glad you loved Dracula Doesn't Drink Lemonade.  Did you know that I love to drink lemonade?  (Usually I drink water, but I also like Orange Crush!)
Caysie and Kienna, I'm so glad you liked the Bride of Frankenstein Doesn't Bake Cookies.  Kienna, the easiest thing to do is to go to Amazon.com with your parent's permission and they have images there.  I've linked the Frankenstein page for you.  If that doesn't work, perhaps you should draw it yourself for fun.  (That way you don't have to worry about those nasty copyright laws.)
Dora and Jasmin, you guys sound like great readers.  Abbey, I hope you check out my book report page to help you with your report.  One of my hobbies is scrapbooking.  I have three children and three dogs and one sweet husband. A big Halloween hello to Brody.  Allisen, I believe the minute hand and the second hand are the same thing.Ghosts Don't Eat Potato Chips  Ellie, it was nice visiting your school.  Willie, I'm glad you liked Ghosts Don't Eat Potato Chips.  Did you know that was the hardest BSK book to write?  It took two years!  Atharva, thanks for reading!  Happy Halloween to everyone!  brb, Debbie

Can you believe it?  I have a podcast!  Go to http://www.debbiedadey.com/Swamp/TheWritingPage.php  to listen by just rolling your cursor over the playlist or you can download it for free onto your I-pod.  I plan to put Debbie Dadeyreadings from various books on there too.  It's technology cool?  William, you might like to try it out because in it I tell great ways to get ideas.

Emily, thanks for the funny title idea.  Chase, best of luck with your writing.  I hope you'll try out my new podcast too.  If there's anything you'd like me to put on there, let me know.

Simra, I'm with you.  I'd love to read all year long too.  I'm sure your mother wants you to do other things as well, but the great thing about reading is that it's the best way for kids to be successful at school.  You can also tell your mom you are building vocabulary and comprehension skills!

Caleb, how cool is it that you wrote.  Thanks!  Dora, how fun that you and Eddie have the same birthday.  I hope you'll like Vampires Don't Wear Polka DotsVampires don't Wear Polka dotsAngel, you're the best!

Anne, my birthday is May 18th.  I hope your class with check out my upcoming author-of-the month bulletin board in the teacher section.  Becky, I love Becky Dadey too!

Harper, how cool to be named after the famous author of To Kill A Mockingbird.  Yes, I do love to write.  I like dragons too.  You may know I've written some books about them, like Dragons Don't Cook Pizza.  Do you know the others?  Dragons Don't cook Pizza

Brenton, no word yet about Bridgett.  Ryan, what a bummer to read a whole book and find the end missing.  Here's the lowdown on the end of Cyclops Doesn't Roller Skate:

Principal Davis announces that Doctor Polly is finished checking everyone's eyes and that now everyone has to wear knee pads and helmets.  The kids are sitting in Burger Doodle having shakes when Dr. Polly skates by wearing a helmet.
     "I guess we were silly to think he was a one-eyed monster, " Lisa said.Cyclops Doesn't Roller-Skate
Melody giggled, "After all, a Cyclops doesn't roller-skate."
But then Eddie ends up spitting milkshake everywhere when he sees the front of Dr. Polly's yellow helmet.  Right in the middle is a bright light that looks exactly like an eyeball!
