balloons I was near New Orleans at two great schools last week.  I even got to see two Mardi Gras parades while eating at Copelands in New Orleans.  Then off to the Cafe DuMonde in the French Quarter for these really delicious French donuts.  They had like three inches of sugar on top!  They must buy powdered sugar by the truck load.  Thanks to the schools for a fun time.

Did anyone see the Super Bowl?  I must admit I was rooting for the Giants, since they were the underdogs.  Just goes to show what never giving up will do for you.  Congratulations to New Yorkers everywhere.

CupidsDontFlipHamburgers Libby, it takes different amounts of time to write different books. It has taken me from one week to eight years!  Caressa, I'm glad you liked Cupids Doesn't Flip Hamburgers.  Isn't this the perfect time of year for that book?  Check out my book section for more Valentine books.  Branden, I'm so glad you like Trolls Don't Ride Roller Coasters.  Did you know I'm scared of roller coasters?

Skylynn and Ashely, thanks for your coooooool ideas.  Emily, I get ideas from everywhere and I've written around 140 books.  Mac, I'm really old.  This year I'll be almost half a century old.  I'll let you figure that one out.

Megan, Monifah and Lucas, you guys are totally cool.  Caleigh, there's a section of my Swamp Club just for book reports.  Check it out and good luck on your report.SwampMonsterinThirdGrade

Alyssa, you're right.  I must like third grade and I think it's because I thought my third grade teacher was sooooooo mean.  I got in trouble all the time for talking too much.  Have you seen the Swamp Monster in Third Grade series

Joey, check out the tips on writing on my home page link. Kevin did and he made a  wild ending!   Thanks to Emily, Nicholas, and Gabby for writing.  Your schools are great.  Nicholas, the new series Marcia and I are working on is mysterious, funny, and exciting.  It will come out next year.  Happy Mardi Gras!  (For those who don't know, Mardi Gras is officially the day before Lent starts for Catholics.  Lent is a time of trying to do good things before Easter.  In New Orleans, they celebrate Mardis Gras with lots of parades and parties.) brb, Debbie

Hi, another dream came true this week!  I finished a screenplay.  Now, whether it will ever become a movie remains to be seen.  (This writing is a tough business!)  But hey, I'm a dreamer!  I"m keeping my fingers crossed that some day my movie may come to a TV or theatre near you!

Estefani, Ashley, Jessi, and Paige-I'm so glad you like my books.  You guys are awesome.

Breaunna, I wrote my first story while living in Kentucky.  Yes, Megan, I am writing a new series.  I just rewrote the first two chapters yesterday.  It was so much fun.  It involved someone (not a girl) in a pink tutu!

Kevin!!-you finished the story in my new writer's section.  You did a fabulous job.  The Golden Knife is totally cool and I really wondered what would happen next.  Thanks for the funny titles too.  You are very creative.

Becky, you're great.  Read a book!

Jennifer, I used to live in Morganhill, CA.  Ask your teacher to check out the Events section of my website.  Maybe I could come to your school next year.  brb, Debbie

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a day to think about how we treat people.  I hope I treat everyone as I'd like to be treated.  How about you?  It's also a day that I think about dreams.  I had a dream to become a writer and it came true (with a lot of hard work)!  Do you have a dream?  Are you willing to work hard to make it come true?

Ayann, you're in luck.  I'm getting ready (hopefully this week) to launch a new section of my website with writing activities.  I think tips would be a great thing to add.  Katelyn, dogs are my favorite animal.  Makayla, I do like country music.  "Jesus, Take the Wheel" is one of my favorites.

Vampires Do Hunt Marshmallow Bunnies Hi to Sabrina.  Renee, my brothers are named David and Frank.  Andrea, the books I write are mostly fiction.  Kevin!!, you are the first entry in the Name Mrs. Jeepers contest.  I'll see if we can get something going on the homepage about it.  Brenton, I liked your idea about the winner getting a phone call from me.  I did answer your snail  mail letter, but another package will be on your way soon.  (The book that you won the dedication in, Vampires Do Hunt Marshmallow Bunnies, will be mailed tomorrow.)  Brenton, I hope we can put the play on my website.  Kevin!! to keep my place in my writing, I just read over what I wrote before.  Ethan, I'm so glad you liked The Scariest Halloween Ever.  As they say in Hawaii, hang loose, Debbie

Fun times in New York City!  Marcia Jones and I met with editors on Tuesday.  We came up with some exciting ideas that we can't wait to write about.  You'll be seeing them in 2009!  We also saw the play Curtains with Miles from Frazier as the star.  It was funny.

Jaide, you can email me any questions here.  Ruben, what do you want to know about Vampire Baby?  I do know that John Steven Gurney used his baby as the model to draw the vampire baby's pictures.  Hi to Amanda and Miles.  I am so sorry about Mora.

Nikky, Mrs. Jeepers doesn't have a first name.  Should we have a contest to name her?  Lisa, you are an awesome reader!  Allison, I've written over 130 books.  You can check them out on my book section.  bttyl, Debbie

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  Can you believe it's 2008!  I just finished a snow monster book and it's so cold outside right now I feel like a snow monster.

Rachel, you should be able to get Ghostville Elementary #14 at 1-800-Scholastic.  The ISBN # is ISBN (0-439-88359-8).  You'll need your parent's help.  Camryn-YOU ROCK!  Danielle, I bet I can guess your teacher's name and I have your letters right here on my desk.  My printer was giving me trouble, but I hope to mail them today.  Kasey, enjoy middle school.

Kevin!!, I told my editor your idea and she liked it.  I'm meeting her next week in NYC and she suggested we talk about it further.  The title of your story sounds creepy!  The thing that helps me finish a story is that I do some planning before I start.  Try figuring out what you want to happen first, in the middle, and how you want it to end before you even begin writing.

Sonja, thanks for your great idea.  I like reading kids' books too.  They're fast and fun.  Yes, I did write at lunchtime with Marcia.  We did do some synopsis (summaries) of books, but never a whole book I don't think.  I like to read before I go to school too.  It is very relaxing.  Take care, Debbie
