Welcome to the frosty world of December! It snowed seven inches here in Colorado just recently and it's been sooooo cold. Today's it's supposed to warm up a bit.
I've been putting up Christmas decorations. Can you guess how many trees I put up in my house? If you guess, I'll put your name in an upcoming book. I do love Christmas!
Even though it's getting closer to Christmas, I'm rewriting a Thanksgiving book for next year. Isn't that strange? It takes quite a while to make a book, so I have to start early. Have you checked out my newest books? A Very Haunted Holiday is a Ghostville Elementary book and Reindeer DO Wear Striped Underwear is the second in the Bailey School Kids Junior Chapter book series. If you like reindeers, you might like to try the craft in the teacher section.
Brenton, thanks for the cool idea about the scratch game. I like the idea of having one minute to find Mrs. Jeepers. I'll ask Fred, my awesomel webmaster friend, about it.
Molly S, congrats on the essay contests. Wow! You sound like a fantastic writer. Maybe I should have an essay contest sometime.
Alex, did you know I have a son named Alex? He likes video games too.
Brad, I do love to write. In fact, I just dreamed up three totally silly stories that I just can't wait to write. My dogs are doing just fine. In fact, you can see their pictures on the event section of my site. Click on events, then about us, then Debbie. Scroll down to see my cute dogs.
I have three parties and one doctor's appointment this week. I think the parties will be a lot more fun than the doctor's appointment! Best wishes for lots of fun this week, Debbie

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. I'm afraid I ate a bit too much pumpkin pie, but my daughter Becky made it and I didn't want to hurt her feelings. Besides, it was delicious! When I was younger I didn't like pumpkin pie, but now I like it a lot. My taste buds have changed as I've gotten older.
Did you go Christmas shopping over the holidays? I did with my two oldest kids. They got me up at 4:30 to go! Isn't that crazy? It was kind of fun, but I didn't like the crowds.
I do like decorating my house for Christmas. I like to do a little at a time. Today, I put out my nativity scene. My younger brother made it for me when he was in the army. It's blue ceramic and very delicate looking. It was a wonderful present many years ago and I still enjoy it. Thanks David! Do you have a favorite present? Let me know.
Chrishonda, did you know I played basketball in junior high in Kentucky? I still have a basketball goal in front of my house and can shoot a mean free throw. Of course, in Kentucky almost everyone loves basketball because of the University of Kentucky Wildcats. Go Cats!
Jack, I will tell you a secret. I am terrified of roller coasters. They scare me to death! Even little bitty ones make me nervous. My husband loves them, so I'm glad my oldest children like to go on them with him. My youngest son and I go on the less scary rides at the amusement parks.
How do you like my picture over at the side? How do I look dressed up as Mrs. Jeepers? Thanks to Sarah the cool graphic designer who did it!
Happy December! Debbie

To Ben and all my friends who'd like me to visit their school. I love visiting schools and go to at least one or two a month. However, I must be invited by parents or teachers. So ask an adult to check out how to schedule a visit on the events part of my website. It'd be cool to meet you. Ben, are you anything like the Ben in the Bailey School Kids books?
To Laura, I'm glad you liked Vampires Don't Wear Polka Dots. It was my first book. Werewolves Don't Go To Summer Camp was the second one. But you don't have to read the Bailey School Kids books in any special order. Just go crazy and read them however you want!
We're in the process of adding some games to the Swamp Club part of my website. Let me know if you have any ideas for what you'd like to see.
I'd better go now and brainstorm some ideas for that secret new series I talked about the other day. Take care and read lots over Thanksgiving vacation, Debbie

Hey Ryan, so glad you like the Barkley School for Dogs books. Guess what? I had a beagle when I was your age. His name was Spike. I loved him so much. He was such a good dog. I would hug him and pet him and tell him all my troubles. He always listened with his big sad eyes. I guess that's why I have three dogs today. They are good friends. I'm sorry to say that I'm not writing anymore Barkley School for Dogs books. There were 12 books in all, but perhaps you might like to read some of my Bailey School Kids books. There's a dog named Comet in several of them such as Ghosts Don't Eat Potato Chips and lots of dogs in Leprechauns Don't Play Fetch. Best of luck to you while you're in the hospital. I'll be thinking of you and keep you in my prayers. I look forward to hearing from you again.
Beatrice, I will be visiting Australia, but not until July of 2008 for World Youth Day with my church. I'd love to come sooner though. Check with your teacher.
Simone, did you know I took karate lessons when I wrote Angels Don't Know Karate?
Amber, you can order my books directly from my site if you'd like. If your school library doesn't have some, suggest them to your librarian.
Whoopee! Only one more day until my son comes home for Thanksgiving. We can hardly wait. Meanwhile, I have 400 books to sign for a musical program in our town called Cranberry Pops. The symphony is doing a special concert for kids, complete with activities and free books. You can find out more about it at www.lctix.com .
Take care and don't stay up as late as I did last night reading! Debbie

Happy Thanksgiving!
Welcome to my new site. Thanks so much to Fred for all his hard work. We're still changing things so keep coming back. As for me, I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving. My son Nathan will be home from college, so we'll really be celebrating. Believe it or not, I already have my table set.
I just got back to Colorado from a trip to Kentucky. It was my mom's 70th birthday and we surprised her with a party. I think she loved it, but she liked the bagpiper we hired the best. She always said she wanted one at her funeral, so we decided she should have one before then. She cried and said, "I'm not even dead yet!"
Shhh! I've been working on a new series. I think it will be a lot of fun. Marcia Jones and I are doing it together. Unfortunately it will be quite a while before it becomes a real book. Meanwhile, we do have a new series called the Bailey School Kids Junior Chapter Books. The newest one is Reindeers Do Wear Striped Underwear. I thought the title was funny.
Here are some messages to friends who wrote me:
Hi to Daniela!
Julia, I'm glad you like Dragons Don't Throw Snowballs. Do you know that I visited a school where they actually did get snowed in and had to spend the night at school?
Sabrina-I have won a few awards. I think they are listed on the book page.
Happy Thanksgiving! Debbie
